Frankenstein
In Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, she
uses introduces us to a new trope in horror novels. The idea that the monster
in the story is the victim of humans. When Frankensteins monster is looking for
revenge because Frankenstein himself refused to make him a wife, in the arctic
when we come upon the monster, Mary did an amazing thing by humanizing the
monster so the reader can relate and even sympathize with it. I feel like with
an iconic piece of literature its really hard to think of things to change or
do differently is really hard. Frankenstein is definitely a huge building block
of the horror genera. She honestly in my opinion did wonderfully pushing the
drama in the story, not just relying on the monster to drive the story. She gives
him emotions, thoughts, and a growing personality. Also making the monster psychologically
smart. Think about it, the monster
kills the doctor’s newly wedded wife who was also his dearest friend. Instead of
killing the doctor, he too now must wonder the earth alone.
